Now a new and improved location in East Nashville, Grimey’s is a record store all it's own. Grimey’s stands out among other record stores because it focuses on art, not just on music. We spoke with Josh the assistant manager at Grimey’s, we asked him what makes this specific store stand out compared to other record stores in the area. Josh told us that Grimey’s is special for a variety of reasons. For example, under Grimey’s is a bookstore, housing hundreds of books from a variety of authors. Josh also spoke on the rate that Grimey’s is growing. They moved into an old church located on the East side. Grimey’s also has a large stage where they can host artists to perform music. They are also big into local Nashville musicians with multiple sections dedicated to upcoming local music. Go check out the new location as soon as possible and see for yourselves!

McKay's is truly a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. While the store features normal items like books, records and memorabilia, the store gets its stock buying previously loved items from its customers. So, it has a wide variety of things to look at and a huge store to get lost in — including an entire second level dedicated to music. While their records and CDs are always fun to sort through, the vintage sets hung on the walls are even more interesting. And, almost every time, there's a new box set waiting to be taken home. From the entire Twilight series, to the Beatles discography, there's almost always a steal. Also, if you're trying to part with any books, movies, games, etc. you might be able to see your items featured on the shelf, and get some cash or store credit in return.

Phonoluxe is definitely the biggest record store we hit. This store truly is a mix of everything you could ever need/ want. This store is home to hundreds upon hundreds of new and used records, as well as DVDs, CDs, books, and even posters. If that’s not enough to get distracted by, behind the register is a wall filled with rare records and box sets. We wanted everything we saw in there. Which is A LOT. We spoke with Scott and he told us the owner, Mike Smyth started this store from the ground up. He said that when everyone had their vinyl purge, Mike took the opportunity to store all the records for a rainy day. Now, in the age of nostalgia, Phonoluxe is filled with thousands of rare finds and a full new stock. This store really has everything you could possibly need/ or want.

Located on the West end of Nashville, The Great Escape is the spot to shop for both music and comic books. The store offers a variety of both new and used items, creating a great selection to choose from. While they have a great collection of comic books, figures, and games, they have an even greater range of music — including records, CDs, and cassettes. And, if you're ever on the hunt for vintage magazines, they always have good ones in stock with covers featuring artists like The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Jimmy Hendrix, and more!

The Groove is a smaller store located on the East side of Nashville. You might have a little trouble finding it because The Groove is located in a house. As soon as entering, you feel literally right at home. This intimate store is full of a great wide selection of new records along with a wide selection of used vinyl/45s. The Groove is also home to many different cassettes and a whole comic book collection. We spoke with Michael, and he said The Groove is a store like none other. They are home to the brand, wake up comics. These are beautifully drawn and detailed comics that are very limitedly housed, but The Groove has a whole selection of these unique graphic novels. They also have a beautiful mural painted on the sidewalk of vinyl jackets.

Home to the one, the only, Mr. Jack White. This store is probably the most unique because, more than a record store, Third Man is a record label. With this being said, they have to be very careful/ selective when it comes to what can/ cannot be housed in this small store. Third Man mostly sells Third Man merch/ recording artists, but they also offer live albums pressings. For example, last year Father John Misty recorded a live record right at Third Man that was directly pressed onto vinyl. Third Man also offers a small recording booth as well as a listening booth so you can test out the live-pressing albums for yourself. This truly is a Nashville staple because what’s more Nashville than Jack White?

Vinyl tap is also located on the East side of Nashville. When walking into Vinyl Tap one is created by a large selection of records but as you go further into Vinyl Tap you are greeted by a huge bar. Vinyl Tap is home to local music and local brews. We spoke to Todd at Vinyl Tap, who told us that there is really something for everyone there. Between the wide selection of music and beer. They have local and domestic beers on tap that you can sip on while listening to your newest purchase. Each and every record store we went into had a certain uniqueness they brought to the table, but Vinyl Tap is truly a mesh of Nashville's two favorite pastimes.
