Summer is here and Nashville heat is no joke. We made a list of swimming holes close to the city that make for great day trips.
Hermitage
3778 Bell Rd
Percy Priest Lake is an excellent place to go swimming on a hot summer day. The lake is in the Percy Priest Park, you can stay overnight at the campground, rent a boat and go out on the lake for some fishing! The possibilities are endless.
Hendersonville
876 Burnett Rd
If you're looking for a beach but don't want to go out of our beautiful state than the Old Hickory Beach is perfect for you. The beach is nice and sandy and runs on the edge of the Cumberland River. Grab a beach towel, volleyball, some kites and head to the beach!
Kingston Springs
1640 Cedar Hill Rd
Take a little hike to the Hidden Lake at Harpeth River State Park for a dip! The hike to the lake is easy and not too long, and the swimming hole at the end of the hike is so rewarding.
Cookeville
1081 Cummins Mill Rd
Cummins Falls is the perfect spot to relax, kick your shoes off, and take a little swim after a great day of hiking. There's plenty of space even on popular days.
Tullahoma
1204-1264 Rutledge Falls Rd
Rutledge Falls is on private property but open to the public with no fee, the owner just asks that you pick up after yourself and leave the space as you found it. The falls are absolutely gorgeous, there is a rope swing to drop into the water. These falls have also been used as a set in the Hannah Montana Movie!
Burns
1020 Jackson Hill Rd
There are three lakes within the Montgomery Bell State Park, and you are able to swim, boat, and fish in all three! There is also a lodge, cabins, and campground in the park for a quiet weekend away.
Monteagle

South Cumberland State Park is home to several swimming holes and gorgeous waterfalls. Drive on down, grab a trail map, and chase those waterfalls through the park on some of the best hiking trails in the South.
Pikeville
10821 Park Rd
A little bit of a drive but absolutely worth the chase to see one of the tallest waterfalls in the Eastern US. There are plenty of swimming holes across the park and just as much hiking as well.
Hermitage
2910 Hobson Pike
There is plenty to do on the shores of Long Hunter State Park. There are great spots for fishing, boat rentals, hiking, and campgrounds. It's a great place to spend the day basking in the sun and enjoying the outdoors!

Rock Island
82 Beach Rd
Take a lovely hike through the state park to see the Great Falls and take a dip in the pool beneath them! It's a bit of a drive from Nashville, but absolutely worth it for the amazing views and a great swim.
